Xuchang is located in the middle province of China,Henan Province.And Xuchang is exactly the middle of Henan province.

Xuchang is called发都,which means capital of hair.

According to a statistics report,the annual exports trades occupies around 60% of hair industry in China.

So why Xuchang  becomes the capital of hair in China instead of other city?

Let’s seek the history behind.

1.In The 16th Century

According to the historic recordings,as early as the 16th century,people in Xuchang started to collect human hair and animal hair to make theatrical props for actors and actresses to perform Yu Opera.Yu Opera is a traditional local opera in Henan province.Hair products is a necessary theatrical prop.

2.In The 1900s To 1940s

Time flew to the 1900s,a villager from Xuchang met a German business man named Hunter.The villager’s name is Bai Xihe,and his hometown is called Quandian village.

Hunter was seeking for quality hair to sell to the upper class ladies in Europe,and the villager told Hunter his hometown has a traditional industry in hair manufacturing.So they began the cooperation,at first they hired people to travel across the villages,exchanging steel needles for the hair of rural women.As the influence grows,Bai Xihe’s fellow villagers travelled across the whole country,usually to the Southeastern provinces,such as Yunan,Guizhou,Sichuan provinces to collect human hair.There are so many mountain areas ,where ladies’ hair is long,unprocessed and quality.Xuchang had become the largest human hair trading center since then.

Hair around the country converged to Quandian village ,the raw hair went through basic processing and was exported to Europe from port cities,such as Qingdao,Shanghai and Guangzhou.

As for its superior quality,the hair from Quandian village was favored by ladies in Europe,and the hair was named Xuquan Hair.

3.In The 1970s-2000s

Back in the 1970s,the Korean vendors dominated the hair supply chain in the United States,Xuchang hair vendors could only supply raw hair material to Korean vendors.Raw hair material was sent to Korea to make hairpieces to sell.In the 1990s,as the rise of cost of human resources ,the Korean companies relocated the hair factories to China.Some hair factories started to make OEM/ODM orders for Korean vendors.While the large profit was taken by the Korean vendors.At the mean time,some hair companies in Xuchang city started to develop their own hair brand and selling channel.

4.2010s To Date

As the spread of internet,Xuchang’s hair vendors started to sell hair online to customers around the world.They sell the hair directly to overseas customers.The online selling channel greatly reduced costs comparing to the offline channel.Due to the affordable price,hair from Xuchang dominated best sellers listings on multiple websites,such as Amazon,Aliexpress,Temu,Shein,Tik Tok Shop.

At the present,there are 300,000 people engaged in hair industry and 5000 hair companies in Xuchang city.
